What the scores mean

Each score from 0 to 100 describes how a city scores on one part of nighttime culture, measured in 2026. A score is a good basis for policy conversations, investment decisions and tracking a city over time. The Index is not a popularity contest!

No ranking

The Index describes cities next to each other without ranking them. Cities are listed alphabetically everywhere on this site. There is no single right way to “do” nighttime culture, and each city’s night looks different. A ranking would hide those differences.

Data and its limits

Scores combine open data, desk research, a survey, interviews and focus groups. Where data is missing or covers a city less fully, the indicator page says so in a note. The survey and focus groups describe the people who took part, not a city’s whole population. Read each score with its notes.

Use and liability

You are welcome to quote and share the scores and findings. Please credit the Nighttime Culture Index, by VibeLab and Amsterdam Dance Event. We check every figure, but we cannot accept liability for decisions based on the Index. If you find an error, please contact us. We will correct it and record the change.
