How we measureDimensions overview
The Index measures nighttime culture across six dimensions. Each dimension asks one question of every city, from how creative work is supported to what the night does for the environment.
Each dimension is built from two to eight indicators, 30 in all, and is scored from 0 to 100. Go through the dimensions to see what they measure, why it matters and how each city scores.

Space & Infrastructure
What kind of physical spaces host night culture, and how many are there? How accessible and reliable is nighttime transport?
Why it matters
Night culture is physical. It needs places to gather, be heard and to stay open late. And a city should be built for people to reach these places. When those conditions are lost, the culture and connections built around them is hard to replace.
