The Index measures nighttime culture across six dimensions. Each dimension asks one question of every city, from how creative work is supported to what the night does for the environment.
Each dimension is built from two to eight indicators, 30 in all, and is scored from 0 to 100. Go through the dimensions to see what they measure, why it matters and how each city scores.

Community & Belonging
How does nightlife feel in a city, and who has the power to shape a scene? Who feels safe at night, and what data and resources support safer nights for different communities?
Why it matters
Listings and licensing data can tell you the scale of nighttime culture, but to understand how it is experienced is just as important. What starts as a good night out can be ruined by a bad vibe, so this dimension includes the views of the people who go out and work at night about how it feels.
