Balance of local and international artists

Over 14,500 artists (of whom around 7,000 whose country is known) on over 15,000 Amsterdam event line-ups, for events dated between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2026.

International artists are 74.3% of artists, but get 51% of bookings. On average, a local artist is booked for 7.4 events, while an international artist gets 2.7 events. So local artists are booked 2.8 times more often than their international peers.

Small venues give artists their first stage, though participants said these rooms are closing. A participant proposed that the city give existing spaces a longer tenure, and a clear, supported route to finding a new location if needed. Some large venues help launch new careers — Paradiso's Vinyl Club helps emerging artists release vinyl singles and play release shows.
