Balance of local and international artists
What this indicator asks
How many of the artists who perform in São Paulo are based in Brazil?
not scored
Over 2,500 artists (over 1,000 whose country is known) on more than 5,200 São Paulo event line-ups, for events dated between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2026.
International artists are 54.0% of artists, but get 23.4% of bookings. On average, a local artist is booked for 5.9 events, while an international artist gets 1.5. So a local artist is booked 3.8 times more often than an international artist. Most international artists come from the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States.
An expert said Brazil consumes more of its own music than any other country, and young people who go out are “very tuned in” to Brazilian music. Another expert said Brazilian artists are now exported abroad.
One participant claimed local parties cannot book dates, because there is always a showcase coming from abroad to fill the space they should be sharing.
