Participants named Seoul Community Radio and Cakeshop more than any other spaces. A participant said community radio gives newcomers their first chance to be heard:
“I think, so… [Seoul] community radio are the ones who are giving the opportunity for the newcomers to have their sound heard by the world.”
An expert said the problem is not a lack of people, but a lack of spaces where people can try out weird things.
A total of 87% of survey respondents in Seoul say the important places that hold the scene together are record shops, studios and radio. A participant said a one-day DIY event costs more than it can earn, because the organiser has to bring and pay for all the sound and DJ equipment.
