Seoul runs 14 night bus routes, the Owl buses, which are the only public transport between 1am and 4am. And 11 of them run all night, with at least two services an hour. The subway’s last trains leave at about 1am.
The Owl bus started in 2013. The city drew the routes from 3 billion late-night phone calls and 5 million night taxi rides, for people who go home late at night, such as students, cleaners and small business owners. The fare is ₩2,500 by card.
A total of 81% of survey respondents in Seoul feel safe travelling home at the end of the night.
