How many fixed music venues have been active in Metropolitan Lagos since 1 January 2025?

We assessed 125 spaces in Metropolitan Lagos and Ibeju-Lekki and identified 15 as dedicated music venues where music is the main purpose. The other 110 spaces also host music alongside other uses, such as bars and lounges, event centres and hire halls, and beaches.
Lagos has 15 dedicated music venues, about 1.2 for every million people. Nine of them are nightclubs. Of the places that also host music, 30% are bars and lounges, 20% are event centres and hire halls, and 12% are beaches and outdoor sites.
An expert said organisers remodel wedding venues by draping the whole room in black, or use studios built for photo and video shoots and bring in all the sound and lights. The expert said several organisers are now building venues of their own:
“There are actually no venues built for dance music in Nigeria, specifically built for the culture.”
