Are women, queer people and people from marginalised communities among the owners and operators of Amsterdam's venues, spaces and production companies?

Club RAUM is a queer club in Amsterdam-Noord. It opened in 2024. Participants praised the diversity of its line-ups, its staff and the collectives it hosts, and asked how owners can use their position to share power.
Participants disagreed on how much is changing. Some see progress: established producers bring newer artists into their projects. One participant said the same owners have run many city venues “for 10 to 20 years”. An expert said diversity behind the scenes is “getting worse”.
Renting a room for one night costs new promoters €8,000 to €10,000, so they carry all the financial risk. An expert proposed that venues give promoters a programme budget again and share the risk. Garage Noord and Paradiso already offer cheap weeknight rooms.
