What share of the artists on Amsterdam's event line-ups are female and gender-diverse?

Over 14,500 artists (around 3,000 of them with known genders) on over 15,000 Amsterdam event line-ups, for events dated between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2026.
Female and gender-diverse artists total only 31% of artists, and they get booked less often. On average, a male artist is booked for 3.3 events, while a female or gender-diverse artist is booked for 2.7 events.
“I remember during COVID I was in this, like, task force, where all of the venues that were also in that task force were very much aware that they need to book more inclusive and local. And then as soon as clubs were able to book again, all those promises and beliefs were just thrown out of the window.”
Artists from underrepresented communities get a first booking easily, but find it hard to build a career. One expert proposed public funding for part of the programme at the largest festivals, to cover the risk.
