What share of the artists on New York’s event line-ups are female and gender-diverse?

Over 19,500 artists (6,300 with known genders) on over 44,000 New York event line-ups, for events dated between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2026.
Female and gender-diverse artists are 30.6% of artists.
An expert said it is not just predominantly cis-het white men anymore, and there is a bit more diversity in gender. But Black and BIPOC people of all identities are still the least represented.
Community Skillshare is a free DJ, production and music business workshop series for women, queer and non-binary people of colour, started in 2019 at PWRPLNT in Brooklyn.
A participant said the same kind of artist gets noticed first:
“A lot of these folks are cis het men that are always kind of getting that attention right away… when we decide to not be as in like influencer types, like you don’t get that same type of recognition.”
An expert said some clubs book DJs of certain identities because it looks good to the public, and proposed that venues invest in local artists.
