Public funding for nighttime culture
What this indicator asks
Does public funding in São Paulo reach nighttime culture, and can grassroots organisers apply for it?
54.5/ 100 · São Paulo
We looked at three elements: how directly funding is aimed at the night, who can apply, and how long it is committed for.
A collective with no legal registration can apply for city funding in its own name. VAI supports groups of low-income young people in districts that lack cultural facilities. Federal money for culture, the Aldir Blanc policy, is fixed in law and continues after the current governments.
No funding line is defined by the night. Collectives apply under general headings such as Music or Festivals. A local coordinator says paperwork and complex financial reporting are the first barrier for small groups.
