We found over 490 cultural venues in Sydney with ticketed events. Opening hours are known for more than 330 of the confirmed venues.
On at least one day of the week, 55% of confirmed venues stay open after 9pm and at least 26% stay open after 11pm. 80% of music venues are open after 9pm, but only 31% of theatres and 23% of art venues.
An expert said the City of Sydney has a lot of power in the planning system: it can decide what happens, how late and where. The expert said this has been the City’s workaround for the lockout laws, which were set by the state government.
