Education pathways into nightlife careers
What this indicator asks
What education and training lead into nightlife careers in Amsterdam - in creative, technical and production roles? Is such education accessible for those who can’t afford it, and does it lead to work?
81.0/ 100 · Amsterdam
We looked at five areas: formal degree courses, private and vocational schools, informal training run by scenes, affordability, and connection to work.
Amsterdam has a dedicated degree for the electronic musician: the Amsterdam Electronic Music Academy at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
The VNPF, the trade association of Dutch pop venues and festivals, runs regular training, including safety courses for technicians. Venues and youth centres add their own programmes, such as Melkweg's Young Creatives and DJ workshops at Meervaart Jong.
Public subsidy pays about two-thirds of an electronic music degree fee. But no night-music course requires students to do a placement.
