Education pathways into nightlife careers
What this indicator asks
What education and training in creative, technical and production roles lead into nightlife careers in Seoul? Is education accessible for those who can’t afford it, and does it lead to work?

We looked at five areas: formal degree courses, private and vocational schools, informal training run by scenes, affordability, and connection to work.
A degree names DJing as a specialisation. The Seoul Institute of the Arts applied music programme has an electronic stream covering sound design and DJing, with the stated aim of developing DJs, audio engineers and producers.
KT&G Sangsangmadang in Hongdae, a live-music venue, trains concert producers. After two months of theory, participants plan and stage graduation concerts, and the venue pays for the hire, technicians, artist fees and promotion. Seoul Community Radio runs workshops and states its aim of nurturing DJ talent at home.
The national scholarship reaches the degree courses. The private DJ schools publish paid tuition with no state funding, and no music student is required to complete a placement.
