Education pathways into nightlife careers
What this indicator asks
What education and training lead into nightlife careers in creative, technical and production roles in São Paulo? Is education accessible for those who can’t afford it, and does it lead to work?
51.0/ 100 · São Paulo
We looked at five areas: formal degree courses, private and vocational schools, informal training run by scenes, affordability, and connection to work.
The city teaches DJing and beatmaking for free, in studios inside public cultural centres in the periferias, the city’s outer neighbourhoods. Rede Daora offers 1,440 places per semester for 14 to 29 year olds. Its courses include Profissão DJ (DJ Profession).
São Paulo has three free public training systems, with over 30,000 free places, such as the PTAC course in lighting, stage and sound technique, with 40 hours of supervised placement. These courses are built for theatre: no course in the city takes nighttime culture as its subject.
Private schools such as AIMEC and Beatmasters SP, and Senac short courses, teach DJing and electronic music production.
