Education pathways into nightlife careers
What this indicator asks
What education and training in creative, technical and production roles lead into nightlife careers in Sydney? Is education accessible for those who can’t afford it, and does it lead to work?
74.5/ 100 · Sydney
We looked at five areas: formal degree courses, private and vocational schools, informal training run by scenes, affordability, and connection to work.
Sydney includes work placements in formal degrees. Every Macquarie University bachelor degree includes at least one placement unit, and music students do at least 45 hours of supervised internship. UTS’s music and sound design degree is partnered with Mushroom Music Group.
The scene runs its own DJ pathway. FBi Radio’s Dance Class is a hands-on pathway into electronic music for women, non-binary and trans creatives, with no DJ experience needed. Graduates play at Club 77.
Electronic music is an option inside broader music degrees.
