Number of cultural conferences

We counted conferences with a published programme of at least three talks, panels or workshops. Half the score comes from the number of conferences. Half comes from how they spread across four areas: the nighttime economy, the music industry, culture and the creative industries, and bars and restaurants. Trade fairs, academic conferences and online-only events are not counted.

Seoul had over 25 conferences: 67% were about culture and the creative industries, but none were about the nighttime economy. The Fête de la Musique+ conference, run with the French Embassy, had two sessions on club culture, among them “Women in the electronic music scene: rewriting club culture”. MU:CON, the government’s music business convention, is held in Mapo-gu.
