Sustainability & Environment · Indicator 1
Festivals with sustainability commitments
What this indicator asks
Of the ten largest night culture events in the Amsterdam region, how many publish a specific environmental commitment, and do they ask their audience to take part?
60.0/ 100 · Amsterdam
We looked at three issues: the share of events that publish a commitment, how many environmental areas they cover, and whether they ask the audience to act.
Seven of the ten largest events (70%) publish a specific environmental commitment. Together they cover all six environmental areas: energy, waste, water, transport, food and materials and suppliers.
Five festivals (50%) ask for audience action. Pride Amsterdam runs a deposit cup system and asks visitors who travel by car to park away from the city centre. Loveland publishes that more than 90% of its visitors arrive by bike or other sustainable transport forms.
Since 2018, city rules require every event with more than 2,000 visitors to meet criteria on energy, water, waste and transport.
These commitments come from festivals themselves. They do not reach the city's clubs.
