Sustainability & Environment · Indicator 1
Festivals with sustainability commitments
What this indicator asks
How many of the largest nighttime culture events in the Seoul Capital Area publish a specific environmental commitment, and do they ask their audience to take part?
25.0/ 100 · Seoul
We looked at three elements: the share of events that publish a commitment, how many environmental areas they cover, and whether they ask the audience to act.
Two of the ten largest events publish a specific environmental commitment, both run by local government. Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival handed out 190,000 reusable containers in 2026 and got 99.6% of them back. Pyeonghwa Nuri Picnic Festival measured its electricity, bought renewable energy and asked visitors to take their rubbish home.
None of the eight privately run festivals publishes a commitment. Seoul’s ban on single-use items at events of 1,000 or more people applies only to events the city sponsors.
