Rehearsal & recording studios

São Paulo has around 670 music studios that people can book to record or rehearse music, around 56 studios per million residents. Many studios offer both. Studio 161 in Tatuapé, for example, has three rooms for rehearsal and recording.

Some studios run on several sites, such as Red Star Studios, with three sites in Moema and Pinheiros. Many places called “estúdio” are for photos, podcasts or video, not music: in Portuguese, “ensaio” means both a band rehearsal and a photo shoot.

A total of 81% of survey respondents in São Paulo call places that hold the scene together without hosting events important: these are often studios, record shops and radio stations.
