Does Lagos’s environmental policy name nightlife as a target, and can venues and events get practical help to become more sustainable?
17.0/ 100 · Lagos
We looked at five areas: whether nightlife is named as a target; whether practical help exists; whether the sector uses it, the general environmental policy the sector falls under; and recent steps in the right direction.
The state ban on single-use plastics has been fully enforced since 1 July 2025. It names event planners among those expected to move to cardboard, paper, bamboo and washable items. Environmental groups asked the state to help businesses switch. No such help was found.
The state reaches night venues on the environment through enforcement. Venues sealed for noise must install soundproofing before they reopen. The 2026 state budget funds solar power for public buildings, and no budget line, grant or advice service reaches venues or events.
