What this indicator asks
How many cultural events other than music take place at night in the São Paulo metropolitan region, and how varied are they?

We counted non-music cultural events that start or are open at 6pm or later, between 1 January 2025 and 31 October 2026. Half the score comes from the number of events. Half comes from how evenly they spread across eight cultural formats: art, theatre and opera, dance, film, comedy, literature, festivals and markets, and public and light art. Each unique event edition counts only once; repeat listings are excluded.
More than 260 unique cultural events at night. Of this total 25% are theatre and opera, and 23% are comedy, most of it stand-up. And 68% take place in the city of São Paulo.
Museums and cultural centres stay open into the evening. For some exhibitions MASP opens to 10pm on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and Itaú Cultural, the CCBB and IMS Paulista open to 8pm. The Virada Cultural runs for 24 hours across the city once a year, with 21 stages in 2025.
